Career Transition: Are we all stuck now or will we get stuck soon?
Many of us celebrate small and big successes in our careers, but do we ever pause to reflect on the struggles that often accompany these achievements? Impostor syndrome—a persistent feeling of inadequacy—is surprisingly common. At times, it can make us feel worthless, as though we’ve hit rock bottom in our personal or professional lives. This emotional weight is magnified when we plan for career transitions but lack clarity on how to navigate them effectively, leaving us trapped between the crevices of knowing and doing.
Coming from a non-technical background, I’ve made strides in understanding coding fundamentals in languages like Python, SQL, HTML, and C++. But am I skilled enough to create and design a website using HTML and CSS? Certainly not! However, I think I can create a simplistic website in WordPress using AI tools, with minimal coding effort.
The tech world evolves at breakneck speed. It is moving fast and expects you to be fastidious. Its demands grow increasingly rigorous. Companies recruit fresh graduates with at least six months of hands-on experience and seasoned professionals & experts with specialized skill sets, such as software product development or technology architecture. This leaves career-transition seekers in a precarious spot. Where do those seeking career transitions stand as their transferable skills often appear generic in today’s competitive market?
The rise of no-code and low-code solutions initially democratized tech access, but their financial appeal has waned due to widespread adoption of AI-driven services. Most companies with a significant clientele have already implemented AI services to run the show. End users now have the convenience of drag-and-drop interfaces and simple prompt-based executions. However, tech products and services requiring advanced coding and deep software knowledge still rely on human expertise—at least for now, until AI reaches the fifth rung of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and achieves the sophistication to create, understand, evaluate, auto-correct and perhaps, independently resolve errors and flaws, without human intervention.
